Newsletter - December 2007 Carving class at Treeline - Here comes Santa Claus...
Back row: Ken Giles, Joanne Layne, Marilyn Ure, Glen Beere, Jay Nylander Front row: Dale Green, Mike Christensen, Bob Dailey, Susan Hendrix Santa came early, and in many shapes and sizes this year. Students selected from an assortment of my Santa rough-outs for their class project. We spent two days carving Santa with trees, cocoa mugs, wreaths, walking sticks, stars, and lanterns. On the third day of class we painted our projects and everyone left with a finished carving ready for the mantle. Treeline USA once again sponsored my Santa class. They have a great classroom and carry woodcarving supplies. Check them out at www.treelineusa.com
New rough-outs Phil and Vicki Bishop sent me their latest catalogue featuring several new rough outs. Of course, I just had to order a few. Their rough outs are always fun to carve and come with good color photos. I'm happy to sponsor Phil and Vicki here in Salt Lake City for our third annual class in May, 2008. If you are interested in attending this three day class please contact me by email or phone (801) 278-7343. More information on class dates and fees will be available soon after the first of the year. Order a catalogue of rough-outs at www.bishopwoodcarving.com CHIP TIP: I would like to talk a little about painting. When you are painting a new project, keep a notebook close by. I have found it useful to keep a record of the colors I'm using on a project for future reference. I recently carved a Santa I did years ago and found I couldn't recreate the colors I used. Now I keep track of all the colors in my “paint notebook”. Include the paint color and brand name in your list. Try this, it may reduce your frustration down the road. Thought for the day: “If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.” Please sign up here to receive our newsletter. |
